The kit comprises of a Microprocessor controlled L.E.D illuminated lighting system. Thirty two LEDS each with three separate illuminated elements are arranged in four blocks. They are sequenced by the microprocessor at approximately Two Hundred times a second. A feedback system is employed to control the light output and to maintain the energy consumption.  The unit is designed to consume a nominal Four Watts at 230V RMS. As voltage Increases or decreases the mark to space ratio of individual blocks are altered to maintain Light level and Power consumption. During daylight hours the sensor puts the unit into standby mode and the power consumption drops to 0.4 Watts.

 

Service Life

The Retro fit kit has been designed not only to significantly reduce power consumption but to provide ultra long life and reliability. All components have been carefully selected to ensure trouble free usage and low maintenance during this period of operation. Life expectancy should exceed 15 plus years.

 

Ease of Installation

All that is required to upgrade is to remove existing gear tray and to plug in the retrofit unit.

 

Safety

The incoming supply is protected with a 80ma Automatically re-settable Poly Fuse. This feeds a totally encapsulated Toroidal isolation step-down transformer (12 V RMS).

 

Cost Comparisons/Payback

Service life, under normal conditions, should exceed 15 years (131500 hours). This equates to a cost of £5.33 per unit per year. Units £80 each.

Fluorescent tubes have a lifespan of  9000 – 13000 hours, this equates to about 1.4 years. At today’s cost ( not including inflation ) of £15.80 to replace the tubes this is £237.00 over the 15 year period.

Existing units consume 30 watts at 230 vac rms. The retrofit unit consumes 4 watts at this voltage ( 7.5 times less ).

Energy costs vary from one area to another but whatever the cost; the retrofit system will reduce the cost by approximately 80%.

Retrofit unit consumes       25.55Kw/year x 8.2p* Kw/h                        =  £  2.10 per year

Environmental Implication

Due to the fact that the Retro Fit System consumes approximately 90% less energy than conventional systems and the need to safely dispose of Fluorescent tubes is not a requirement this therefore impacts significantly on the Environment and lowers the Carbon footprint.

 

 

The Carbon reduction is approx 229 metric tonnes per year.
